What is visual art?

Visual art is the umbrella over everything made to be seen: painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, ceramics, film, digital media and design. If it reaches you through your eyes, it lives here.

The term matters mostly as a boundary with the performing arts (music, theater, dance) and literature — though contemporary artists cross those lines constantly.
