What is contemporary art?

Contemporary art is the art of now — usually dated from about 1970 to the present. It is global, plural and medium-agnostic: installation, video, performance, street art, digital and AI work all count, and no single style dominates.

If modern art was about breaking the old rules, contemporary art is what artists built once the rules stayed broken.
